The patient below originally had traditional breast augmentation with silicone implants in Dec. 2006. This patient underwent a simutaneous breast augmentation and lifting procedure (Periareolar Lift) to increase the size of the breasts while tightenting the skin and elevating the areola. With this type of skin tightening procedure, all of the scars are located around the edge of the areola where they are less visible than on the breast mound itself .

How much can I realistically increase my breast size?
For a primary patient, 1-1.5 cups. In an explant patient, re-establishment of a breast mound. In a best-case scenario with minimal damage from explant, 1-1.5 cups
What areas of my body can fat be liposuctioned from for transfer?
The preferred areas for round 1 are lower back/flank/love handle area and outer/back of thighs. For the secondary, inner/front of thighs and abdomen
Will the fat transfer affect the feeling in my breasts?
No, if there is a possibility that sensation may be affected, Dr. Bednar will discuss this possibility with the patient
How long does the surgery take?
2-2.5 hours in the OR, 1-1.5 hours in recovery

About risks and recovery
What are the potential risks and complications of the procedure?
General risks of surgery and cysts, lumps, bumps, infection, scarring, fat necrosis, and liposuction irregularities
What will the recovery process be like?
For 3 months postoperatively, avoid trauma to the chest/breast, avoid sleeping on the chest/breast/sides, avoid heavy lifting and anaerobic stages of exercise, avoid anti-inflammatory supplements. Ensure adequate intake of protein and water. Follow a well-balanced diet.
Will I need to wear a special garment after surgery?
Yes, you will be required to wear a compression garment for 4-6-weeks postoperatively. You will wear a high-impact sports bra 24/7 for 3 months
How long will I be out of work?
This varies from patient to patient. Most patients are back to daily activities within a week of surgery. Some patients prefer to have more than one week.
Will future mammograms be affected by the fat transfer?
It is best to check with the physician ordering mammograms or the radiologist prior to proceeding with fat grafting. For patients with pre-existing breast conditions or if areas are being closely monitored, it is best to check with the physician to ensure they can continue to monitor these areas appropriately after fat grafting.
When can I pick up / handle my children?
When you feel comfortable. If the child is upset or mad, avoid picking them up to ensure you are not accidentally hit or kicked.
Can I go swimming after?
Not until after 3 months postoperatively.
